My Mom's Guide to Using iPhoto 2
A step-by-step guide to the everyday features of iPhoto.

Printing your iPhoto pictures

With iPhoto you can have all your digital photos on your computer, accessible, and easy to share electronically with your family and friends. But sometimes you'll still want to make real prints of some of your pictures.

You might want one to send to your sister, who's not a hi-tech, computer geek, like you are. Or maybe you just want a pic of your granddaughter to tape to the refridgerator.

If your have a printer, especially a color printer, attached to your Mac it's easy to make beautiful, inexpensive prints right in your home.

Step-by-step

  1. Choose the Organize tab.
  2. Locate the photo you want to print.
  3. Select it by clicking on it. A blue frame will appear around the picture.
  4. Click on the Print icon in the lower left
  5. If it's not already... Select Full Page from the Style pop-up menu in the window that appears.
  6. Click the Print button.

If you haven't used your printer recently, you might need to refer to its manual, your Mac manual, or your friendly Mac Mentor for help on getting it running. But here's a printer tip.

90% of printer problems can be traced to one of three things: 1) It's not plugged into the computer, 2) It's not turned on, or, 3) Its power cord is not plugged into the wall.

Extra Credit

Print more than one picture at a time.

In Step #3 select more than one photo by holding down the Command key while clicking on your photos. Then Click the Print icon.

In the Print settings window that appears you can control whether your photos print on separate pages, or multiple photos on a page.

You can control how the photos are arranged on the page(s) by using different settings in the Style pop-up menu. Experiment with different choices and different settings in the boxed area beneath the pop-up. I suggest you start with Contact Sheet and N-Up.
