My Mom's Guide to Using iPhoto 2
A step-by-step guide to the everyday features of iPhoto.

Importing a photo that is already on your disk.

Sometimes the images you want to add to your iPhoto Library are already in files on your disk drive. This may be because you had to manually download them from your camera, or maybe you digitized them from old snapshots.

In order to move these pictures into iPhoto you'll need to know which folder on your disk drive contains the photo files. If you're not sure about this, consult your computer manual, or ask your friendly neighborhood Macintosh Mentor.

Step-by-step:
Importing disk files into iPhoto

  1. Open iPhoto
  2. Pull down the File menu and select Import...
  3. Browse to find the folder that contains the files with your photos.
  4. When you find the photo file, click on its name in the file browser window.
  5. Click the Import Button.
  6. iPhoto will transfer your photo from the disk files into your Photo Library.

After you've imported your photos the original disk files will remain where you found them. If you want, you can now throw the orinals into the trash since they are now safely stored in your iPhoto Photo Library.
